Susan Duncan

Owner, Coach & Trainer

Susan has been showing hunters and jumpers at the provincial and national levels since the age of 11,  working with horses and their humans ever since. Susan is a graduate of Sheridan college in Early Childhood Education. She holds a diploma in Autism Intervention Training (K-12) from the University of New Brunswick, as well as an honours graduate in photography from Humber College.

Susan has been an approved Equestrian Canada judge since 2000 in the equitation, hunter, jumper and hack rings. She is a licensed coach with Equestrian Canada. She credits her ability to educate young horses to the many wonderful trainers she has been fortunate to work with over the years.

Susan is proud to be a part of introducing and managing the Carrot & Stick Horse Show series, an Ontario Equestrian Skills Development series, intended to provide quality shows at the grassroots level.

Her horse, 'Blue by You' was inducted into the Jump Canada Hall of Fame in November 2008.

Ziigwen Mixemong
Coach

Ziigwen Mixemong (Bailey) has been taking riding lessons since before her third birthday.  She began her equestrian education showing hunters and jumpers up the national level, as well as competing in the world of eventing up to Training level. Over the years, she has had the privilege to work with many wonderful coaches as well as working with amazing clinicians including Olympians. Bailey has continued to prioritize advancing her own knowledge in order to benefit our athletes and is now a registered coach with Equestrian Canada. Outside of the barn, Bailey is a published children’s author and is currently pursuing an MA in Social Justice. Her greatest joy is watching her students build a love of horsemanship and partnership with a horse, just as she did.

Pony Squisher/Website Designer/Social Media Producer
Ashley is a student at Barrie North and is in grade 10, don't let her age fool you,

Ashley started in the riding program at SJD at the age of 8 and has worked steadily to develop her skills as a rider and a horsewoman. In the last 3 years Ashley has spent dedicated hours working with our ponies and is now our #1 pony squisher. Ashley can be found at the barn as many hours as she can to progress her own training and working towards her competition goals. You will see Ashley at Carrot and Stick developing her new pony Sam.

Ashley had worked steadily during covid with online school, therefore has been adopted as our social media producer and as our website designer. Ashleys knowledge and experience at SJD has made her a great asset to the SJD team.

Destiny Mackinnon

Assistent Coach/Trainer

We have welcomed Destiny to our team this year as an assistant coach and trainer. Destiny has a appreciation for all of the horses that she works with. She can find the strengths in each horse and rider and works to understand, develop and achieve their individual goals. You will see Destiny competing at Carrot and Stick with her very own "My Oh My".

Destinys success in the hunter and jumper ring has made her a perfect fit for the SJD team.
